SumiShield

Sumitomo Chemical Group Companies of the Americas established a mission to eradicate malaria. SCAI became a global partner in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Insecticide resistance in malaria vectors was critical for health ministers and stakeholders. SCAI created SumiShield®, a breakthrough in resistance management programs and a major class of low-toxicity insecticides in its portfolio of anti-malaria brands.

Overview: Product branding, multi-language technical brochure design, and multi-language materials.

Challenges

We were assigned to design the Sumishield® brand identity and logo to align with its portfolio of major-class anti-malaria brands and technical materials.

What we did

We designed and marketed a recognizable brand that was effective against many mosquitos that had already developed resistance to one or all of the major classes of insecticides. We were instrumental in helping to achieve the SDG goals.

Impact

SumiShield® became a breakthrough solution as an indoor residual wall spray with the first new mode of action in over forty years. SumiShield® became part of Sumitomo Chemical’s portfolio of malaria eradication brands as an extension of vector control tools. As a result, global success in reducing the malaria burden led the malaria community to shift their ambitions from malaria control to eradicating the disease.
